For pond plumbing, select clamps made from corrosion-resistant material. Ordinary hardware can rust quickly around water, splash, moisture, and pond treatments. How to install a barbed fitting and clamp

5. Check for excessive pressure or restriction
A kinked hose, blocked filter, closed valve, or undersized adapter can increase resistance. Confirm that valves are open, the hose is not crushed, and the filter and pump are installed as directed. Never operate a pump against a closed discharge unless the manufacturer specifically allows it.

Replace the hose if it remains soft, split, permanently stretched, or too stiff to seal. Replace the clamp if it is rusty, stripped, bent, or unable to tighten evenly. For a typical removable pond connection, a correctly sized barbed fitting paired with a corrosion-resistant adjustable clamp is usually the most flexible choice. For a compact permanent joint, an appropriate crimp-style clamp may be preferable. In all cases, correct sizing matters more than simply using a tighter clamp.
